Salford City Council has announced the connection of a 2-MW solar farm in Little Hulton, the first for the city in the Greater Manchester area, to the UK grid.
The solar farm, spanning 3.8 hectares (9.39 acres) and equipped with 3,774 ground-mounted solar panels, is expected to generate over 2 GWh of electricity annually. This electricity will be used to offset Salford City Council's electricity bills.
Funded partly by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Salford City Council, the project is part of a larger initiative called Unlocking Green Energy in Greater Manchester. This aligns with Salford and Greater Manchester's commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2038.
Vital Energi, the main contractor for the project, has previously installed a solar carport in the city.
