Swedish consultancy firm AFRY has been appointed by Philippine power company Aboitiz Power Corp as owner's engineer for a 172-MWp solar project in Negros Occidental, Philippines.
The contract, awarded by Aboitiz Solar Power Inc, includes construction and grid interconnection works for the Calatrava project. AFRY will provide project management assistance, design review, and support services during construction and commissioning.
Spanning 143 hectares, the project will feature fixed ground-mounted solar panels and connect to the 230-kV Calatrava substation. Construction is scheduled to commence in September, with completion expected by the end of 2024.
SUMEC Complete Equipment and Engineering Co Ltd will undertake the construction works, as previously announced by AboitizPower.
Calatrava is one of five projects in AboitizPower's solar portfolio, with plans to develop nearly 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects by 2030. The company aims to build at least 3,700 MW of renewable capacity by the same year.
AboitizPower unveiled plans for the Calatrava plant in August as part of its broader solar initiatives, which also include a 211 MWp project in Olongapo, Zambales, described at the time as the largest solar project in its portfolio.
