German energy storage company Intilion AG announced on Tuesday its partnership with local startup Purpel Energy to construct four large-scale battery systems totaling 48 MWh in northern Germany.
Intilion, responsible for supplying the storage units, described the order as the second largest in its history.
Each storage system, with a capacity of 12 MWh, aims to enhance the integration of renewable energies and stabilize the public power grid.
Construction is slated to commence in autumn 2024. Intilion will oversee the delivery, installation, and commissioning of the systems, as well as their integration into the grid. Additionally, the company will provide support services following the commissioning of the facilities.
Purpel Energy will market the energy from the systems on the balancing energy and spot markets.
Established in 2023, Purpel Energy offers turnkey large-scale battery storage systems as an investment opportunity for family offices, foundations, and investment funds.
Intilion had previously planned to go public but opted not to proceed with the offering in July 2023 due to unfavorable conditions in the capital markets.
