Munich-based solar developer O&L Nexentury GmbH has announced plans to build a 15 MW floating photovoltaic (FPV) plant on the Philippsee gravel lake in western Germany.
The project will involve installing 27,160 solar modules on a floating substructure, covering approximately 15% of the lake surface. Philippsee is utilized by local company Philipp & Co KG for sand and gravel extraction.
“We are excited to embark on this innovative project that will not only utilize a unique location for renewable energy generation but also contribute to sustainable operations at Philipp & Co KG,” stated a representative from O&L Nexentury.
Construction is set to commence in the third quarter of 2024, with the facility expected to be operational by the end of the year. The solar park aims to produce 16 GWh of green electricity annually, powering the adjacent gravel plant and feeding surplus energy into the grid.
The project is a collaboration between O&L Nexentury, Philipp & Co, Ohlthaver & List's European arm O&L Europe SE, the German federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, and DKB as the financing bank.
