Renewables developer-operator Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) and UK-based Harmony Energy have successfully energized their Clay Tye battery energy storage system (BESS) in Essex, England.
The BESS, with a total capacity of 99 MW/198 MWh, is capable of powering more than 300,000 UK homes for two hours at a time.
The Clay Tye site is equipped with 52 Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries and Tesla's Autobidder AI software, enabling energy capacity sharing and efficient project management.
Connected to the UK Power Networks distribution grid, the batteries can store energy from renewable sources and provide peak-time flexibility to the national grid, according to a joint statement from FRV and Harmony Energy.
This project builds on the success of FRV and Harmony Energy's previous BESS projects in the UK, including Contego (34 MW/68 MWh) and Holes Bay (7.5 MW/15 MWh).
