Atlas Renewable Energy has inked a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) for a cutting-edge battery energy storage system (BESS) being developed alongside Chilean partner COPEC. The PPA spans an impressive 15-year term.
Situated adjacent to Atlas' Sol del Desierto solar plant in Maria Elena, within Chile's Antofagasta region, the BESS del Desierto project is set to become one of Latin America's and Chile's largest energy storage endeavors. Boasting an installed capacity of 200MW and a storage capacity of 800 megawatt hours, this standalone battery system is poised to revolutionize energy storage in the region.
“This deal marks our expansion into battery energy storage technology, establishing Atlas as an early adopter in Latin America,” stated Atlas Renewable Energy's CEO, Carlos Barrera. “It demonstrates our commitment to innovative energy solutions and strengthens our position as a leader in sustainable technology for the region's energy transition.”
Barrera added, “The BESS del Desierto project is a key part of our strategy to enhance energy reliability in the region through advanced solar resource utilization and offer customized energy solutions to our clients.”
This groundbreaking project signifies a significant step forward in Latin America's renewable energy landscape, heralding a new era of advanced energy storage technology and sustainable energy solutions.
