Avangrid has announced the completion of its 162MWac Pachwáywit Fields farm, located in Gilliam County, Oregon. The plant, also known as Montague Solar, is now the largest photovoltaic facility in the state.

Avangrid's chief executive, Pedro Azagra, stated that the project is proof of the company's commitment to accelerating the energy transition in Oregon and the US. He also expressed pride in working with Portland (PGE) to help the company achieve its ambitious sustainability and carbon reduction goals.

PGE's senior director of clean energy origination and structuring, Brett Greene, highlighted that Pachwáywit Fields would provide clean energy to 17 of PGE's largest customers through the Green Future Impact program.

This would help to deliver 162MW of clean towards collective decarbonization goals at an affordable price. Greene also expressed pride in partnering with customers to advance the clean energy transition in Oregon, as outlined in PGE's Clean Energy & Integrated Resource Plans.

The solar farm covers an area of 1,223 acres and comprises 471,156 solar panels. These panels generate the equivalent electricity required to power 40,000 homes. The project began construction in 2021 and is located on ceded lands of the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs. The name of the facility, pronounced Patch-Why-Wit, means “sun” in the Sahaptin language and pays homage to the rich history and stewardship of the Warm Springs and Umatilla Tribes.
