Aspiravi Offshore, a subsidiary of Belgian renewable energy company Aspiravi Group, has purchased compatriot Parkwind NV's stake in the 216-MW Northwind offshore wind farm located off the coast of Belgium in the North Sea. The transaction, announced on Tuesday, increases Aspiravi's ownership in the project to 70% and marks Parkwind's exit from the consortium. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Previously owning 40% of Northwind's stock, Aspiravi Offshore exercised its pre-emption rights over the Northwind shares held by Parkwind and acquired an additional 30% from the Belgian firm, which is owned by Japanese utility Jera Co Inc. In contrast, Sumitomo Corporation has chosen not to exercise its rights and will maintain its 30% stake in Northwind.
Northwind, situated on the Lodewijk Bank approximately 37 km (23 mi) off the Belgian coast within the country's economic zone in the North Sea, comprises 72 Vestas turbines that have been generating electricity since 2014. The wind farm's annual generation is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 250,000 homes.
