Cubico and Stanwell Corporation (Stanwell) have announced the green light for the second stage of the Wambo wind farm project. This development is poised to elevate the project's final capacity to over 500MW, marking a substantial leap in renewable energy generation in Australia.
Stage two of the project, slated for completion in 2026, will witness the installation of 41 additional turbines. This expansion will amplify the generation capacity of the wind farm by an impressive 254MW, complementing the 252MW first stage already under construction and scheduled for completion in 2025.

The collaborative efforts of Cubico and Stanwell in advancing the Wambo wind farm underscore a shared commitment to driving sustainable energy initiatives. Cubico's involvement in the project dates back to 2019 when it embarked on the development journey in Queensland's Western Downs region.
“This expansion of our Wambo wind farm represents a significant milestone in our pursuit of clean energy solutions,” remarked David Smith, Country Manager for Australia at Cubico. “With this development, we aim to power over 200,000 homes across Queensland, contributing to the state's renewable energy targets.”
Stanwell, a major Australian energy provider, stands as a key partner in this endeavor, participating in a 50-50 joint venture for the construction of the wind farm. Upon completion, Stanwell is poised to serve as an off-taker, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable energy practices.

The advancement of the Wambo wind farm aligns seamlessly with the Queensland Government's ambitious goal of sourcing 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035. Additionally, the project is set to foster economic growth and job creation, with up to 200 jobs expected during the construction phase and numerous full-time positions upon commencement of operations.
“We recognize the importance of not only delivering clean energy but also actively engaging with local communities,” added Smith. “Through our Community Benefit Funds, we have already contributed over $100,000 to initiatives in Jandowae and the Western Downs Region, ensuring a positive and lasting impact.”
