Linxon, a player in energy transmission solutions, is celebrating the certified takeover of the extension of the Bicker Fen 400 kV AIS substation, marking a significant milestone in the commissioning of the 1400MW Viking Link between the UK and Denmark.
The Viking Link project, a high voltage direct current (HVDC) electricity link connecting Bicker Fen in the UK to Revsing in southern Jutland, Denmark, represents a groundbreaking collaboration between the two nations, facilitating power sharing for the first time.

“Viking Link and its substations represent a pivotal development in the energy landscape, offering both Britain and Denmark increased access to clean, green energy and enhancing energy security for both countries,” remarked a Linxon spokesperson.
As part of the project, Linxon played a crucial role in the delivery of National Grid Electricity Transmission's Bicker Fen 400 kV AC substation extension in Lincolnshire, UK, which included the installation of a converter station and substation in each country.
Stretching across British, Dutch, German, and Danish waters, Viking Link is a joint venture between the UK's National Grid and Danish System Operator Energinet, spanning a distance of 765 km between the two countries.
Under a contract awarded in late 2020, Linxon provided the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solution for the extension of double busbars, bus coupler, and two user (interconnector) bays at the Bicker Fen substation.

Looking ahead, Linxon is poised to embark on the construction of the Messaure substation in Jokkmokk, connecting northern Sweden to Finland via the Aurora Line, with work set to commence in April 2024.
