Ignitis Group, a leading Lithuanian utility, is gearing up to commence construction works this quarter on a groundbreaking Latvian solar portfolio boasting a combined capacity of 239 megawatts (MW).
Described as the largest solar initiative of its kind in the Baltic states, the portfolio encompasses three distinct power generating facilities. Following the state-controlled energy holding company's final investment decision (FID) on the projects late last year, Ignitis Group has now revealed additional details about the ambitious endeavor.

The EUR 178 million (approximately USD 191.8 million) scheme comprises the Varme site, with a capacity of 94 MW, and the Stelpe solar project, boasting 145 MW, which encompasses two stand-alone developments. The first development will be situated in Varme parish in Kuldigas county, while the other two sites will be located in the parishes of Barbele and Stelpe in Bauskas county.
Upon completion, anticipated in 2025, these sites are projected to generate sufficient clean electricity to cater to the annual needs of approximately 100,000 households. Additionally, there exists the option to incorporate wind power into each of the assets through hybridization, further bolstering their energy output and sustainability.
