Seatrium to Spearhead Multi-Billion Euro HVDC Project in Collaboration with TenneT

-based Ltd, formerly known as Marine Ltd, has announced significant progress in its collaboration with Dutch and German grid operator . The company has received official notification from TenneT outlining plans to commence work on the third 2-GW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electrical transmission system on June 1, 2024.

In a strategic move last March, Seatrium, in partnership with GE Vernova, secured a comprehensive five-year framework cooperation agreement with TenneT. This agreement involves the supply of three HVDC systems tailored for offshore wind projects in the , each valued at approximately EUR 2 billion (USD 2.2bn).

The momentum of this collaboration was evident as the first two HVDC projects were swiftly awarded following the agreement. Now, attention is turned towards the impending commencement of the third project, scheduled for June 1 this year. This milestone is contingent upon the completion of specific deliverables by Seatrium and GE Vernova in the upcoming months, as outlined in the official announcement.

Seatrium assumes a pivotal role in the execution of the project, being entrusted with responsibilities spanning engineering, procurement, construction, transportation, installation, and commissioning of the 2-GW HVDC offshore converter platform. This platform is designated to serve the NWBE, formerly known as Nederwiek 2, offshore wind farm.

Samuel Wong, Executive Vice President of Fixed Platforms at Seatrium, expressed enthusiasm about the latest endeavor. “With this latest project, Seatrium is currently working on five HDVC offshore Converter Platforms, creating a franchise for series-built opportunities in HVDCs to achieve greater synergies from project repeatability.”
