Seajet Systems, a subsidiary of OEG Energy, has recently achieved a significant milestone with the successful wet testing of its groundbreaking all-electric controlled flow excavation (E-CFE) technology named Hydromole. The wet test, conducted at the ORE Catapult research centre in Blyth, Newcastle, marks a pivotal moment in the development of the world's first all-electric twin CFE, poised for commercial deployment in the global subsea market.
The Hydromole E-CFE system, touted as the most potent and advanced solution on the market, boasts the capability to deliver an impressive 400kW of power to the seabed, regardless of water depth. Moreover, its advanced control system enables real-time monitoring and optimization of system performance, ensuring reliability and maximizing project uptime, as affirmed by OEG.

Departing from conventional hydraulic technology, the E-CFE not only significantly reduces CO2 emissions but also offers substantial fuel cost savings of up to 40%. Additionally, it eliminates the risk of high-pressure, high-volume oil spills into the marine environment, aligning with sustainability goals.
The versatility of the Hydromole system extends across the entire lifecycle of offshore energy projects, encompassing pre-commissioning, construction, inspection, maintenance, repair, and eventual decommissioning. Its non-contact excavation and trenching method enable a multitude of applications, including seabed preparation, cable and pipeline trenching, backfilling, free-span mitigation, and subsea infrastructure deburial.
John Heiton, CEO of OEG, emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability, stating, “Innovation is a core aspect of OEG's business as we constantly seek to support our clients with more effective, reliable, and sustainable solutions. This is a first in its class development delivering a step-change in safety, environmental, and operational performance underpinned by the best of British design and manufacturing.”

Faisel Chaudry, Managing Director at Seajet, expressed delight at achieving this significant milestone, stating, “We are delighted to have completed the significant final milestone of rigorous wet testing of Seajet's Hydromole E-CFE system. The open water trials have been a resounding success and have in fact exceeded the performance metrics we initially set out to achieve. The Hydromole is now available to the global subsea market, with the fleet being expanded to meet demand across a wide range of offshore applications, in the UK and globally.”
