Specialty chemicals company Evonik has entered into a significant agreement with Vattenfall, a leading energy provider, to procure around 120GWh of solar power annually. Under the newly established long-term electricity supply contract, two solar farms operated by Vattenfall in Schleswig-Holstein will commence supplying power to Evonik starting in 2025.
The first of these solar farms is situated south of Flensburg in Silberstedt, with details regarding the second location yet to be finalized. Both solar facilities, boasting a combined capacity of 120MW, are slated for completion and grid connection by 2025.

This collaboration between Vattenfall and Evonik aims to provide investment security, ensure a stable supply of green electricity, and diversify risks for both parties. The contractual agreements are set to remain valid for a duration of 10 years.
Martijn Hagens, board member and head of the markets division at Vattenfall, highlighted Germany's position as the fastest-growing market for renewable energies in Europe. He emphasized the growth opportunities within the region for solar, onshore, and offshore projects, underscoring the pivotal role of electricity partnerships with industrial entities, as exemplified by the collaboration with Evonik.

Thomas Wessel, a board member responsible for sustainability at Evonik, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability. He noted Evonik's progress in securing green electricity supply contracts, including agreements for wind power in 2022 and now solar power in 2024, marking a significant milestone in the company's journey toward sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
