Minnesota Power Seeks 400MW of Wind Energy in Clean Energy Expansion Effort

, a leading utility provider in the , has announced a significant step towards expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The company has issued a request for proposals (RFP) aiming to acquire up to 400MW of wind energy by the end of 2027, in line with its 2021 Integrated Resource Plan approved by the Public Utilities Commission.

The RFP aligns with Minnesota Power's commitment to acquiring clean energy sources, including wind and solar power. As part of its EnergyForward strategy for a clean-energy future, the company seeks to diversify its energy sources while ensuring cost-effectiveness and reliability for its 150,000 retail customers.

Minnesota Power is open to considering various project structures, including build-own-transfer and projects, with a preference for capacities ranging from 100MW to 200MW. The company emphasizes the importance of projects located within the MISO Local Resource Zone 1, with direct interconnections to the transmission system and the ability to commence commercial production by 2026 or 2027.

Furthermore, the RFP aims to maximize the benefits of wind development, leveraging federal legislation such as the . Preferences will be given to projects in energy-impacted communities, diverse bidders, and the use of domestically sourced materials. Additionally, the RFP includes requirements for utilizing local prevailing wages, local labor for construction and permanent staffing, and the development of apprenticeship programs.
