Geoffrey R. Pyatt, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, underscored the robust energy partnership between the US and India, emphasizing their shared commitment to energy transition and collaboration on renewable supply chains.
During a virtual press briefing, Pyatt highlighted the alignment of priorities between the two nations, particularly in ensuring alternative supply chains, notably for renewables. He emphasized the significance of reliable energy supply chains, energy security, and advancing commercial cooperation with private sector partners in India's rapidly expanding clean energy sector.
Pyatt, who recently visited India in January, described the country as one of the US's most vital energy relationships globally. Reflecting on his visit, he praised the progress in infrastructure, particularly in the renewable energy sector, citing interactions with entities like Microsoft and renewable energy firm Greenko Group during his visit to Hyderabad.
Addressing the importance of diversifying supply chains, Pyatt referenced geopolitical disruptions such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and underscored the need for alternative sources, particularly in light of China's dominance in renewable energy equipment production.
Furthermore, Pyatt commended Indian firms for their efforts in producing electric three-wheelers, noting their potential for adoption in the US, particularly in urban areas where larger trucks face logistical challenges.
Regarding cooperation between the US and India, Pyatt expressed optimism, highlighting positive engagements at venues such as the Shastri Bhavan in New Delhi, which houses the oil ministry, describing the recent meetings as particularly encouraging.
