EDF, in partnership with DIF and Ib Vogt, has finalized an agreement to trade, optimize, and offtake energy generated by solar and battery assets with a combined capacity of 116MW sharing a transmission grid connection at Warley, UK.
Scheduled for operational status in 2024, Warley is poised to become one of the UK's largest co-located sites. Under the terms of the deal, EDF will manage the real-time operations of the co-located assets, ensuring efficient utilization of the shared transmission-level grid connection.
Over a decade-long period, EDF will handle the physical energy offtake from the solar farm and optimize the 50MW battery using its proprietary Powershift platform. Leveraging EDF's trading expertise, the platform will provide access to various revenue streams available to the battery, including the balancing mechanism, wholesale optimization, and ancillary services.
This groundbreaking collaboration represents one of the first instances in the UK where a single entity, EDF, provides both offtake and battery optimization services for a large co-located site. The partnership aims to enhance efficiency and performance, contributing essential flexibility to the grid and ensuring a reliable and secure source of energy.
Stuart Fenner, Director of Wholesale Market Service Commercial at EDF, expressed satisfaction with being chosen for this role, stating, “This unique deal exemplifies the innovation needed to address our energy challenges, which will help to secure green energy for the future and deliver on our commitment to help Britain achieve net zero.”
