US non-profit healthcare organization AdventHealth has inked a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Scout Clean Energy, securing half of the output from the 180-MW Heart of Texas Wind Farm in Texas. The VPPA covers a 90-MW portion of the wind farm, which commenced operations in 2020.
AdventHealth's commitment to procure 90 MW of wind power is in line with its broader goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2026. The VPPA will contribute to meeting 40% of the organization's electricity needs.
The Heart of Texas Wind Farm, located near McCulloch County, features 64 individual 300-foot-tall wind turbines and has the capacity to generate electricity for approximately 67,000 homes.
Scout Clean Energy, owned by Brookfield Asset Management, manages a portfolio of around 1,000 MW of wind assets in operation and under construction. Additionally, the company has a robust pipeline of over 19,000 MW of wind, solar, and storage projects across 22 states. The VPPA underscores the growing trend of corporations committing to renewable energy procurement to meet sustainability goals.
