Canadian Solar, a solar module manufacturer, has successfully delivered its inaugural batch of 700W tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) modules, produced in the United States, to renowned US solar distributor Signature Solar.
The introduction of the TOPBiHiKu7 series, comprising six modules with a power capacity ranging from 675W to 700W, was initially unveiled at the Intersolar Europe event in Germany last June.
These modules boast an impressive power conversion efficiency of up to 22.7%. Expressing satisfaction with the collaboration, Canadian Solar's Corporate Senior Vice President, Thomas Koerner, conveyed his happiness about the partnership and friendship with Signature Solar through a LinkedIn post. In addition to the module deal, Signature Solar will also retail Canadian Solar's comprehensive range of battery storage products.
The successful deployment of both battery products and TOPCon panels marks a positive development for Canadian Solar, which has strategically shifted its focus towards TOPCon manufacturing in recent years. In November 2022, the company projected that TOPCon modules would constitute 30% of its total module shipments by the end of 2023.
The manufacturing of these modules takes place at Canadian Solar's facility in Mesquite, Texas, which commenced commercial operations last year. Boasting an annual nameplate production capacity of 5GW, this facility represents the company's maiden manufacturing venture in the United States.
The move aligns with the increasing trend and demand for US-based manufacturing, driven in part by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
