British water and sewerage services provider Yorkshire Water has finalized a power purchase agreement (PPA) to procure electricity from a 37.2-MW wind farm situated in the Scottish Highlands. The agreement, with the Strathrory Park wind farm, will contribute to covering approximately 17% of Yorkshire Water's annual power demand for its operations with renewable energy.
Developed by Germany's Energiekontor AG and acquired by global private asset manager Capital Dynamics in October 2023, the Strathrory Park wind farm is currently under construction near Ardross and Alness. It is slated to feature seven turbines capable of generating around 100,000 MWh of electricity annually, with operations expected to commence in late 2025.
Daniel Oxley, Yorkshire Water's commercial programme manager, highlighted the significance of the deal, stating, “Once completed, the Strathrory Wind Farm will provide approximately 17% of our annual power needs, increasing our renewable energy use, reducing our exposure to energy price volatility, and reducing the operational costs of our sites, which will provide better value for money for our customers.”
