Plans for Community Windpower's proposed 315MW Faw Side onshore wind farm in Scotland have been rejected by local authorities. The 45-turbine project, slated for the A7 corridor between Langholm and Teviothead in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders, faced objections from councils in both regions.
Council objections centered on concerns over the negative visual impacts and potential detrimental effects on the surrounding landscape posed by the Faw Side wind farm. Additionally, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) raised objections, citing significant impacts on the operation and capability of the Eskdalemuir Seismological Recording Station and Array. This facility measures vibrations from nuclear tests.
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) also expressed concerns, warning that the project could potentially impact the nearby Eweslees Watch Tower.
Given the collective objections and identified impacts, the Scottish government has decided to reject the Faw Side wind farm proposal. This decision reflects the importance placed on addressing visual and environmental considerations, as well as national security and historical preservation concerns.
