Finnish steel manufacturer Outokumpu has announced its decision to raise its stake in the operational 45MW onshore wind farm, Puuska 2, owned by power company Rajakiiri Oy.
Outokumpu's increased ownership will now amount to 19.9%, equivalent to nearly 9MW of the facility's capacity. The wind farm is situated near Outokumpu's steel plant in Tornio.
Launched in 2010, Puuska 2 underwent expansion in 2015, adding 16.5MW to its capacity. The wind farm is expected to have approximately 16 years of remaining production life. With an annual output of around 130,000 MWh, Puuska 2 can meet the energy needs of approximately 8,500 homes.
Tony Lindström, General Manager of Outokumpu EvoEnergy, Outokumpu's energy unit, highlighted that the increased investment in Rajakiiri enhances access to windmills in close proximity to the company's operations.
Additionally, Lindström mentioned that this move provides a long-term strategic advantage for future onshore and offshore investments planned by Rajakiiri.
