David Griffiths, currently the Head of Health, Safety, and Environment at SSE Renewables, has been appointed as the new chair of the G+ global offshore wind health and safety organization. In his role at SSE Renewables, Griffiths oversees the implementation of safe operational practices for the developer.
Having served as a G+ board director for over five years, Griffiths will now take on the responsibility of leading the organization's efforts to enhance incident data reporting transparency, provide good practice guidance, and organize industry workshops.
Lisbeth Norup Frømling from Orsted will support Griffiths in the role of vice chair at G+.
Expressing his commitment, Griffiths stated, “As chair, I am honored to continue my role within G+ and steer this collaborative body towards a safer future for offshore wind workers. While I am immensely proud of the role G+ plays in facilitating a reduction in industry incident rates, we mustn't become complacent. 2024 brings around a new year with new challenges, and I look forward to driving the vital work of G+.”
The G+ Offshore Wind Health and Safety Organization comprises thirteen major operators in the industry, including BP, Corio Generation, EDF Renewables, Equinor, Iberdrola, Northland Power, Ocean Winds, Orsted, RWE, Siemens Gamesa, SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies, and Vattenfall. The organization focuses on collaborative efforts to enhance safety standards and reduce incident rates within the offshore wind sector.
