Spanish solar developer, Solarpack, has officially commenced the construction of the San Martin solar farm in Peru, marking a significant milestone in the installation of nearly 300 MW of solar capacity. The project is set to become the largest solar farm in the South American nation.
The groundbreaking initiative follows a substantial long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) inked between Solarpack and Peruvian generator Kallpa Generacion. According to the terms of the PPA, Kallpa will be the exclusive off-taker for all electricity generated by the San Martin plant.
Situated in the district of La Joya, Arequipa province, the solar farm will be equipped with 665-Wp solar photovoltaic panels mounted on single-axis tracking systems. Upon completion, the San Martin solar farm is projected to produce more than 830 GWh of electricity annually. Solarpack anticipates the plant to be operational by the second quarter of 2025.
The development of San Martin underscores the growing importance of renewable energy initiatives in Peru, contributing significantly to the country's efforts in sustainable power generation.
