Global engineering consultancy Wood Thilsted (WT) has secured a pivotal role in Ocean Winds' 500MW BC-Wind offshore wind project, taking charge of the preliminary foundation designs as the front-end engineering design (FEED) and detailed design wind turbine generator (WTG) foundation designer.
Developed through a joint venture between Engie and EDPR, the BC-Wind offshore wind farm is poised to include up to 34 turbines located 23km off Poland's shoreline. The initiative aligns with Poland's renewed policy emphasis on expanding offshore wind capacity in the Baltic Sea, marking a significant stride in the country's pursuit of sustainable energy sources.
As one of the pioneering projects in Poland's offshore wind sector, BC-Wind holds strategic importance in the nation's transition towards cleaner energy alternatives.
Wood Thilsted emphasized its commitment to contributing to the local market by hiring locally, nurturing in-country teams, and collaborating with suppliers to foster the development of relevant supply chains. The consultancy has previously taken the lead in Foundations Concept design, enhancing the project's understanding of the engineering intricacies of the site.
Ed Crammond, WT's Head of Growth & Sales, remarked, “Wood Thilsted's continued involvement in this landmark project signifies our dedication to advancing offshore wind energy in Poland and across the globe. Our expertise in jacket design and extensive experience of overcoming complex engineering challenges means this pioneering project will set the standard for optimized, efficient offshore wind design in Poland.”
