Danish energy company Orsted A/S has secured an agreement to supply electricity from its 300MW solar park in Arizona to Meta Platforms Inc's data centre in Mesa. The majority of the solar farm's output will be delivered to Meta's Mesa data centre through a contract with utility Salt River Project (SRP), which will manage the power distribution.
The Eleven Mile Solar Centre, located in Arizona's Pinal County, will span over a 2,000-acre site and feature a 300MW solar park coupled with a four-hour battery energy storage system. Planned to become operational in the coming year, the facility will not only cater to Meta's data centre needs but also make any excess power available to SRP's customers.
In addition to the Eleven Mile Solar Centre, Meta has previously committed to procuring 50% of the output from AES Corp's 100MW West Line solar park and is set to receive electricity from the upcoming 200MW Brittlebush solar park, both located in Arizona.
These agreements align with Meta's sustainability goals, aiming to power its operations with 100% renewable energy and achieve net-zero emissions across its value chain.
