HSM Offshore Energy has officially commenced the construction of the Thor Offshore High Voltage Station (OHVS) project for RWE, as indicated by the steel cutting ceremony held at the HSM Offshore Energy yard in Schiedam, Netherlands.
The comprehensive project encompasses the construction of both the offshore substation and the jacket, with the steel cutting ceremony symbolizing the beginning of this pivotal endeavor.
In 2022, HSM Offshore Energy, in collaboration with key subcontractors Iv-Offshore & Energy and GE, secured the contract for engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of the offshore high voltage substation and its jacket foundation. The selection was based on HSM Offshore Energy's demonstrated experience and technical expertise, aimed at delivering an efficient design for RWE's Thor offshore wind farm located off the coast of Denmark.
The offshore substation is designed to have a capacity exceeding 1 gigawatt (GW) with an overall weight below 3,000 metric tons. Notably, the project's design prioritizes sustainability by minimizing the use of structural steel and optimizing energy efficiency during the manufacturing process. Steel sourcing and fabrication are conducted in Europe, aligning with RWE's commitment to responsible sourcing and reducing environmental impact.
This milestone underscores HSM Offshore Energy's capabilities in the offshore energy sector and its dedication to advancing sustainable solutions in collaboration with industry leaders such as RWE.
