Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries announced on Tuesday that its subsidiary, Sembcorp Solar Singapore, has successfully secured a tender from government agency JTC Corporation for a significant solar power project in Jurong Island.
The awarded tender involves the solarization of both vacant land and rooftops across five buildings on Jurong Island, boasting a contracted capacity of 117 Megawatt peak (MWp), according to a statement released by Sembcorp Industries. This marks the largest project by capacity ever granted by a public sector agency in Singapore to date.
Sembcorp Industries, which disclosed plans last month to invest approximately S$10.5 billion ($7.84 billion) —equivalent to about 75% of its total investments from 2024 to 2028— expressed a commitment to supporting the growth of renewables. The company aims to halve carbon emissions by 2028 as part of its sustainability objectives.
In alignment with the Singapore Green Plan 2030, Sembcorp Industries asserted that it is strategically positioned to contribute to the transformation of Jurong Island into a sustainable energy and chemicals park. The latest venture reflects Singapore's broader efforts to advance its renewable energy infrastructure and bolster its commitment to environmental sustainability.
