German energy group RWE AG has successfully secured contracts for difference (CfD) for 66 MW of solar projects in Poland, marking an expansion of its green energy portfolio in the country. The contracts, granted by the Polish Energy Regulatory Office through the latest renewable energy auctions, encompass small and medium photovoltaic projects with varying delivery timelines.
Construction is anticipated to commence on most of these projects in 2024. Notably, many of the schemes were developed by local company Alpha Solar, which RWE acquired last year.
Katja Wuenschel, Chief Executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, highlighted Poland as one of the company's core growth markets, offering favorable locations for both wind and solar power. “Our success in these tenders strengthens our position as a leading renewables company and allows us to secure part of our revenue stream long-term,” added Agnieszka Wojnarowska, Head of Development for Onshore Wind and Solar at RWE Renewables Poland.
RWE already operates over 32 MW of solar farms in Poland, with an additional 100 MW of photovoltaic projects currently under construction. This move aligns with RWE's global strategy, aiming to invest EUR 55 billion (USD 59.3 billion) net and expand its green portfolio to over 65 GW in the 2024-2030 period.
