Africa Greenco Group, a renewable energy retailer, has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of a 25-MW solar project in Zambia, as announced during the ongoing COP28 climate summit in Dubai.
The PPA is associated with the Ilute photovoltaic (PV) project, a collaborative effort by Zambia-based Western Solar Power and Serengeti Energy, an African renewable independent power producer (IPP) owned by KfW, STOA, Proparco, Norfund, Swedfund, and NDF.
Situated in the Sesheke district of Zambia's Western Province, the PV park will be operated by Zambia's national power utility, ZESCO. Construction is scheduled to commence next year, with commercial operations anticipated to begin in 2025.
The project signifies a direct foreign investment of USD 37 million (EUR 34.3 million). In September, GreenCo solidified its commitment by signing an implementation agreement with the Zambian government, facilitating the project's development under the nation's open access power program.
