German energy giant RWE AG has commenced the construction of its 54-MW San Severo onshore wind farm in Italy's Apulia region, as announced on Wednesday. The project, involving an investment of approximately EUR 92 million (USD 99.4 million), will feature 12 wind turbines with a capacity of 4.5 MW each.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, the San Severo wind farm in the municipality of San Severo marks a strategic move by RWE in Italy, identified as a key market for the company's green growth initiatives.
Katja Wuenschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We at RWE are excited to start the construction work on a new major onshore wind project, with up to 55,000 Italian homes to be supplied annually.”
RWE had previously announced its final investment decision (FID) for the San Severo project in July 2023. The FID encompassed another project, the 54-MW Mondonuovo wind farm in Apulia, with construction set to commence in early 2024.
