has received approval from Scottish Ministers for the 125MW Cloiche , situated in the Scottish Highlands. The granted Section 36 planning consent paves the way for the development of the 29-turbine Cloiche facility.

The company expressed satisfaction with the decision and is now set to concentrate on advancing the project through the final stages of development, with a potential construction start in 2026. The successful delivery of the wind farm is contingent upon securing a route to market and a final investment decision.

Cloiche is located on the Glendoe and Garrogie Estates, in proximity to the operational Stronelairg Wind Farm and Glendoe Scheme, approximately 11km southeast of Fort Augustus. Notably, the project site is situated in an area of peatland affected by extreme erosion, leading to the continuous emission of stored carbon dioxide.

In tandem with the wind farm's development, SSE Renewables has outlined plans for the long-term restoration of extensive peatland areas affected by degradation. Over the project's lifecycle, this restoration program is anticipated to contribute to meeting Scottish government targets for peatland restoration.

Heather Donald, Director of Development and Construction at SSE Renewables, expressed gratitude for the Scottish government's consent, emphasizing the critical role onshore wind projects like Cloiche play in achieving the net-zero transition and decarbonizing the 's energy supply. Donald also acknowledged the collaboration with the local community, stating that feedback received has been instrumental in shaping the project. SSE Renewables looks forward to the potential economic benefits that Cloiche Wind Farm could bring to the Highlands, contributing to regional development and supporting the transition to net-zero emissions.
