Swedish Consultancy AFRY to Conduct Impact Assessments for 500 MW Solar Portfolio in Indonesia

Swedish energy and infrastructure consultancy, AFRY, has secured a contract with PT Power, a subsidiary of Indonesia's state electricity company PT PLN, to conduct environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) for a portfolio of five large-scale projects in Indonesia.

The projects, with a combined capacity of 500 MW, are part of PT PLN's Proyek Hijaunesia 2023 initiative, aimed at developing multiple solar and wind power projects on Java and Bali islands and the province of Aceh.

AFRY, known for its expertise in environmental and social advisory services, has a track record of supporting over 5 GW of and power sector projects in Indonesia. The newly signed contract specifically involves three systems and two ground-mounted plants planned for Java Island.

The Proyek Hijaunesia 2023 initiative emphasizes collaboration with investors, while ensuring PT PLN retains the majority ownership of each asset throughout construction. The projects signify a concerted effort to bolster solar and wind power infrastructure in key regions, contributing to Indonesia's renewable energy goals.

This development underscores AFRY's ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions globally, aligning with Indonesia's ambitions to enhance its renewable energy capacity. The partnership with PT PLN marks a significant step towards realizing these ambitions, with AFRY contributing its expertise to navigate the environmental and social aspects of the solar projects.
