Swedish energy and infrastructure consultancy, AFRY, has secured a contract with PT PLN Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of Indonesia's state electricity company PT PLN, to conduct environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) for a portfolio of five large-scale solar projects in Indonesia.
The projects, with a combined capacity of 500 MW, are part of PT PLN's Proyek Hijaunesia 2023 initiative, aimed at developing multiple solar and wind power projects on Java and Bali islands and the province of Aceh.
AFRY, known for its expertise in environmental and social advisory services, has a track record of supporting over 5 GW of renewable energy and power sector projects in Indonesia. The newly signed contract specifically involves three floating solar systems and two ground-mounted plants planned for Java Island.
The Proyek Hijaunesia 2023 initiative emphasizes collaboration with investors, while ensuring PT PLN retains the majority ownership of each asset throughout construction.
