German renewable energy company PNE has successfully finalized a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) with packaging manufacturer Gerresheimer. The clean power covered by the PPA is sourced from an undisclosed PNE wind farm located in Germany.
Under the terms of the agreement, Gerresheimer, a leading manufacturer of primary glass and plastic packaging for the pharmaceutical, biotech, and cosmetics industries, is set to benefit from approximately 35 gigawatt hours of clean power annually starting in 2024, with favorable conditions.
PNE's Chief Executive, Markus Lesser, highlighted the increasing interest among industrial companies in PPAs with larger volumes and extended durations. He stated, “More and more companies like Gerresheimer are actively shaping their own energy transition. We reliably assist the industry in reducing its CO2 footprint. Companies can use PPAs to secure long-term capacities of clean electricity at attractive conditions in a volatile market environment.”
Gerresheimer's Chief Executive, Dietmar Siemssen, emphasized the importance of the power purchase agreement with PNE AG as a significant step in expanding the use of green power in supplying energy to their German locations.
This collaboration aligns with the broader trend of companies seeking sustainable and reliable sources of energy, contributing to the reduction of carbon footprints and supporting the transition to cleaner power solutions.
