Canadian Solar has secured a substantial order to deliver a 240MW DC/480MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for a project site in South Australia, developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). In an announcement on Monday, Canadian Solar emerged as the preferred supplier for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) as well as operations and maintenance (O&M). The contract was awarded to e-STORAGE, a unit of Canadian Solar's majority-owned subsidiary, CSI Solar Co Ltd.
The Summerfield battery storage facility, with a two-hour discharge capacity, is slated for installation in the Murraylands region of South Australia, situated to the east of Adelaide. The project will leverage e-STORAGE's SolBank lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology, and the installation is set to be completed in 2025.
Once operational, the battery system will contribute surplus power to the grid during peak demand periods. While initially designed for a two-hour discharge capacity, the project remains flexible for potential expansion based on market needs, as noted by Canadian Solar.
The agreement reinforces Canadian Solar's presence in the renewable energy sector and underscores the company's capabilities in delivering advanced battery energy storage solutions for sustainable power management.
