Eden GeoPower and ZeroGeo Energy GmbH have unveiled a strategic collaboration aimed at deploying Eden's groundbreaking rock permeability enhancement technology across geothermal heat and power as well as geologic hydrogen projects in Europe.
The partners will actively seek opportunities to integrate Eden's Electrical Reservoir Stimulation (ERS) technology within the European landscape. The primary objective is to amplify rock permeability in geothermal and geologic hydrogen reservoirs, thereby optimizing the extraction of heat and natural hydrogen. This approach aims to create permeability in geologic formations, enabling a more extensive range of geothermal projects compared to traditional multi-borehole methods.
Eden GeoPower introduces its ERS technology as a solution designed to bolster the recovery of natural resources while enhancing the economic viability of resource extraction, all with minimal environmental impact. The innovative process utilizes electricity to augment permeability, resulting in increased recovery rates for both new and existing assets. Importantly, this approach mitigates water consumption, reduces carbon emissions, and addresses seismicity risks associated with conventional hydraulic fracturing, positioning it as a more inherently sustainable method.
ZeroGeo Energy GmbH's ongoing development initiatives, such as Projects Thermo in Germany and Tief in Switzerland, align seamlessly with Eden's vision of improving subsurface permeability across diverse industries, including geothermal and geologic hydrogen. The company intends to incorporate Eden's technology in its projects whenever feasible and actively advocate for the adoption of ERS technology throughout Europe.
John Ashbridge, Chief Executive of ZeroGeo, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “The next generation of natural resource recovery technologies are critical in the energy transition.” He highlighted Europe's extensive history in geothermal heat and power generation, emphasizing the potential of Eden's technology to attract interest from project owners and developers seeking to overcome production rate limitations imposed by traditional hydraulic fracturing.
Paris Smalls, CEO of Eden GeoPower, expressed delight in the partnership with ZeroGeo, citing the compatibility of Eden's technology with the European operating environment. Smalls emphasized the transformative potential of ERS technology, particularly in regions where traditional hydraulic rock stimulation techniques face regulatory restrictions. The technology's minimal water consumption and electric-based rock stimulation approach position it as a potential game-changer for the European renewable energy market, particularly in the realms of deep geothermal and geologic hydrogen.
The collaboration with ZeroGeo underlines Eden GeoPower's commitment to bringing the value of its technology to the European market, supporting countries in achieving their renewable energy goals.
