Naturgy Energizes 50 MW Wind Farm and 30 MW Solar Plant in Western Spain

Spanish utility Naturgy Energy Group has successfully commissioned a 50 MW and a 30 MW solar plant in the western region of , Spain. The newly operational projects, named Merengue II and Puerta del Jerte, contribute to Naturgy's growing portfolio of assets in the region.

The Merengue II wind project, with an investment of approximately EUR 41 million, features 11 wind turbines capable of generating 128 GWh of annually. The project reinforces Naturgy's commitment to expanding its portfolio and represents a strategic addition to its assets in Extremadura.

Simultaneously, Naturgy has brought online the Puerta del Jerte solar plant, representing an investment close to EUR 16 million. The solar facility is anticipated to produce an estimated 62 GWh of electricity annually, contributing to Naturgy's growing solar energy capacity.

These projects mark Naturgy's second wind and second solar farm in Extremadura, bringing its total operational renewables capacity in the region to 142 MW. The utility is actively shaping additional solar projects in Extremadura, with a total capacity of 509 MW in the pipeline. This includes the 300 MW Campo de Aranuelo, identified as Naturgy's largest renewable energy initiative in Spain.

The commissioning of Merengue II and Puerta del Jerte aligns with Naturgy's strategic focus on expanding its renewable energy footprint and advancing Spain's clean energy transition. The utility continues to play a pivotal role in contributing to the country's renewable energy goals while bolstering its position as a key player in the Spanish energy landscape.
