Dajin Heavy Industry has delivered the first shipment of 48 XXL monopiles to Invergordon, Scotland. The project, contracted by developer Ocean Winds, involves the supply of monopiles weighing approximately 2,000 tonnes each, with a diameter of ten meters.
The Port of Cromarty Firth (POCF) has been chosen as the marshalling location for all 62 monopiles, with Spain's Navantia Seanergies and Windar Renovables handling the delivery of the remaining 14 units. Offshore construction commenced recently, with the installation of the first monopile at the project site situated approximately 22.5 kilometers off the Caithness coastline.
Moray West, a Scottish offshore wind farm, is set to feature 60 Siemens Gamesa 14.7 MW wind turbines, alongside two offshore substations, all supported by monopile foundations. Ocean Winds, the primary developer, holds the majority ownership of the project, with a minority share belonging to Lithuania's Ignitis Group.
Upon completion, Moray West is projected to fulfill the power needs of around 650,000 households in Scotland for the next 25 years, further contributing to the region's renewable energy landscape.
