US-based GameChange Solar, a manufacturer specializing in fixed tilt and tracker solar racking systems, has been awarded a contract to supply its proprietary Genius Tracker products for the Oriana Solar project, a 232-MWdc facility located on the Texas Gulf Coast. The contract was placed by US engineering firm Bechtel Corp, which is serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the Oriana Solar project owned by Turkish conglomerate Sabanci Holdings.
The Oriana Solar plant, situated in Victoria County, Texas, is set to feature approximately 425,000 bifacial panels mounted on GameChange Solar's Genius Trackers. Notably, these trackers have undergone rigorous testing in wind tunnels, simulating speeds of up to 155 mph. The Genius Trackers are equipped with features designed to safeguard the system from damage during severe weather events, including hurricane-force winds, floods, and hail, prevalent in the Gulf Coast region, as highlighted by GameChange Solar.
In addition to the solar installation, the Oriana Solar project will include a 60-MW/120-MWh battery energy storage system, further contributing to the facility's resilience and grid stability.
With construction scheduled to commence in early 2024 and completion expected in mid-2025, this development underscores the ongoing expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in Texas and aligns with broader industry efforts to integrate advanced technologies for increased efficiency and reliability.
