Clean energy provider Today's Power Inc (TPI) and environmental services company Veolia North America have announced a partnership to install a 5-MW solar array at Veolia's hazardous waste treatment plant in Gum Springs, Arkansas, according to a press release on Tuesday.
The single-axis tracking solar farm is projected to generate 250 GWh of electricity over the next 25 years, enabling Veolia to fulfill the Gum Springs facility's daily energy needs. Any surplus electricity produced will be fed into the local grid, as outlined in Veolia North America's statement.
Breaking ground on the project, TPI will take charge of constructing and operating the solar array, with full operational status expected by the fourth quarter of 2024.
Upon completion, the Gum Springs facility will become the sole hazardous waste treatment plant in the United States to generate as much electricity as it consumes annually, achieving full energy self-sufficiency, according to Veolia North America.
Veolia North America operates as a subsidiary of France's Veolia Environnement SA.
