Australian independent service provider Rigcom Group has been acquired by turbine maintenance outfit GEV Wind Power, marking a strategic move to enhance their global footprint. Rigcom, specializing in field-deployed rotor blade maintenance and height safety services, joins forces with GEV to operate across four continents with a field workforce exceeding 500 technicians.
Under the leadership of Chairman Gary Flowers and CEO Michael Biddle, Rigcom's management team will continue to guide the company within the GEV umbrella. GEV Wind Power, known for providing blade repair and maintenance services in the UK, Europe, and the US, focuses on minimizing downtime and maximizing production efficiency for onshore and offshore wind farms.
Turbine blades are susceptible to erosion and weather damage, impacting aerodynamic efficiency and overall energy production. GEV has established itself as a global market leader in wind turbine blade repair and maintenance, having serviced over 5000 turbines to date.
The acquisition is seen as a strategic alignment, with Rigcom being one of Australia's prominent turbine independent service providers. The field-deployed rotor blade services offered by Rigcom complement GEV's existing business. The collaboration aims to lead the consolidation in the sector, providing clients with a consistent and globally delivered solution.
GEV Group CEO David Fletcher expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We help our clients be smarter about their long-term blade maintenance strategies, from in-field project excellence to wider technology-enabled solutions.” Fletcher also highlighted the anticipation of leveraging Rigcom's expertise in the height safety market and supporting its growth through GEV's global presence.
Rigcom CEO Michael Biddle emphasized the benefits of the merger for clients in Australia and the Asia Pacific region, citing the enhanced ability to deliver global blade repair knowledge and local services. The collaboration aims to provide clients with world-class statutory inspection capabilities and solutions to common height safety problems, expanding the scope of services offered by the combined entity.
