Multinational alternative fuels company HIF Global has taken a significant step in the sustainable energy landscape by announcing its first commercial export of e-fuels produced at the Haru Oni pilot plant in southern Chile. The shipment, consisting of 24,600 liters of synthetic fuel, is en route to the United Kingdom.
These e-fuels are created through the methanol-to-gasoline process, utilizing a starting mix of green hydrogen and recycled CO2. Notably, these e-fuels are destined for use by German sports car manufacturer Porsche AG at its Experience Centre and Mobil 1 Supercup circuits. The innovative aspect of these e-fuels lies in their seamless compatibility with conventional gasoline, requiring no engine modifications for Porsche's vehicles.
The journey began with the commencement of e-fuels production at the Haru Oni demonstration plant in December 2022. Porsche, a significant stakeholder in HIF Global, received the first batch of e-fuels for testing in its vehicles in March of this year.
The carmaker solidified its commitment to sustainable energy by acquiring a “long-term stake” in HIF Global, investing USD 75 million (approximately EUR 69.8 million) in the company. This strategic partnership highlights the collaboration between automotive industry leaders and alternative fuel providers in driving the transition to more sustainable transportation solutions.
