Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), in line with Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap, is intensifying its commitment to renewable energy solutions. Through its subsidiary, Malakoff Radiance Sdn Bhd, the company has entered into a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA) with the DRB-HICOM Group of Companies, encompassing key entities such as Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional (MODENAS) Sdn Bhd, PMB Properties Sdn Bhd, and ISUZU HICOM Malaysia Sdn Bhd, among others.
The SPPA outlines a comprehensive collaboration that includes the development, operation, and maintenance of solar photovoltaic systems at fourteen strategic locations spread across Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Melaka, and Pahang. These solar installations, with a combined capacity of 20.78 MWp, are anticipated to generate approximately 26,546.45 MWh of electricity annually. This initiative is poised to make a notable impact by reducing annual carbon emissions by an estimated 20,706 tCO2e, a figure equivalent to the carbon sequestration potential of 23,204.56 acres of forest.
The formal signing of the SPPA took place at the Saujana Hotel in Kuala Lumpur and was witnessed by leaders from both organizations. The decision to integrate solar energy solutions within DRB-HICOM's facilities underscores Malakoff's dedication to achieving its 500 MW target for solar projects within the Albukhary Group of Companies. This strategic move emphasizes Malakoff's unwavering commitment to addressing climate change and bolstering Malaysia's transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. Malakoff's specialized business unit, known as Malakoff Green Solutions, is devoted to providing environmentally-friendly energy solutions and currently oversees a total renewable energy generating capacity of 151 MW.
Encik Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, the Managing Director and CEO of Malakoff, emphasized the pivotal role of sustainable growth in the context of climate change. He underscored Malakoff's aspiration to be a prominent provider of commercial solar energy solutions in Malaysia. In addition to its solar power endeavors, the company is actively exploring various avenues within the renewable energy sector, including small hydropower projects, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and green mobility solutions.
This Solar Power Purchase Agreement represents an integral component of Malakoff's broader commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 7, which revolves around ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy sources for all.
